Arsenal in talks to sign Man City star but reach a ‘gap in valuation’
Arsenal have held talks to sign Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo, according to reports.
After securing a second-placed finish in the Premier League this season, Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen in several areas in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Arteta is keen to recruit two new midfielders and West Ham captain Declan Rice is one of Arsenal’s top targets.
Arsenal have also reportedly offered a two-year deal to Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who is out of contract this summer. However, the 32-year-old has received a three-year contract proposal from Barcelona, while City are also pushing hard to keep him.
According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have also held ‘early verbal talks’ with City over a possible deal for Cancelo.
However, the broadcaster reports that there is already a ‘gap in valuation’ between Arsenal and City.
The Premier League champions surprisingly allowed Cancelo to leave in the January transfer window after falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola.
The Portugal international joined Bayern Munich on a temporary deal but it’s understood that the defender does not want to make the move permanent this summer.
