Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that his club must try to seal the transfer of Kylian Mbappe if the opportunity comes up this summer, according to latest reports.

The Gunners are closing in on the club-record signing of Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, but Wenger is still eager to bring in Mbappe alongside him up front.

With Alexis Sanchez’s future in doubt amid interest from Manchester City a year before his contract expires, Wenger is adamant that the club must invest big money in attack.

According to football.london, he believes the chance to snap up the Monaco front-man cannot be wasted, with other leading clubs in Europe also queuing up to sign him this summer.

The France international enjoyed a superb breakthrough season in 2016/17, scoring 26 goals in all competitions to fire his club to the Ligue 1 title and the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Real Madrid are also chasing the 18-year-old in this transfer window, while latest reports suggest Paris Saint-Germain are also stepping up their interest.

Arsenal could be seen as a decent stepping stone club for Mbappe, who looks destined for a great career at an elite European club one way or another.

The Gunners may be best-placed to offer him first-team football straight away and aid him in his development over the next few years, but failure to land him this year will surely mean their chance is gone.

Wenger himself seemed to hint that the youngster should pick Arsenal over other clubs last month, saying: ‘(He should go) somewhere where he has a good chance to play and is sure to play.’

With Lacazette also prolific in Ligue 1 last season, he and Mbappe leading Arsenal’s attack could certainly go a long way to helping replace Sanchez if he does make his way to City.

Arsenal have also been linked with Mbappe’s Monaco team-mate Thomas Lemar in a major revamp of their attacking options this summer.
