The future of Kylian Mbappe has taken another dramatic turn after Fabrizio Romano revealed the PSG frontman has been the subject of a world-record €300m offer from Saudi Arabia Pro-League side Al Hilal.

The France star confirmed earlier this summer that he does not intend to sign an extension to his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, which is currently due to expire in 2024. And, by not wanting to lose their prized asset as a free transfer in less than a year, it’s suggested the Ligue 1 giants would prefer to cash in on the 24-year-old now.

However, there are few clubs in the world game who could finance such a move. To that end, he’s been linked with a big-money to Manchester United should a Sheikh Jassim-led takeover of the club go through.

Arsenal were surprisingly thrown into the mix earlier this summer. To facilitate a move, a wild report claimed the Gunners could offer PSG four stars in part exchange to get a move done.

However, a move to the Premier League just does not appear likely any time soon.

The forward has also been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, amid claims he’s already agreed terms on a free-transfer switch to the Bernabeu next summer.

Now, though, Romano has revealed PSG have received a preposterous offer from the Gulf State for Mbappe’s services.

The Italian journalist tweeted: “EXCL: Al Hilal have submitted formal bid to Paris Saint-Germain in order to open talks for Kylian Mbappé. Understand it’s worth €300m – record fee. No talks on player side.”

If genuine, that offer, worth a staggering £259.1m, will seriously give PSG food for thought. And if the player is determined to follow through with his belief that he won’t sign an extension in France, it is an offer likely to be accepted.

Shortly after Romano’s news broke, French publication L’Equipe claimed the Ligue 1 giants are ‘ready to accept’ the proposal for Mbappe.

Furthermore, a separate report claims they are also willing to pay the World Cup winner him a salary on a par with Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Man Utd man – the first big-name to make the move to the Saudi Pro League – is on a deal worth £177m a year, or £3.4m a week.

PSG, however, will reportedly make one final attempt to keep Mbappe on their books. To that end, a report last week suggested PSG were willing to offer him a staggering 10-year deal branded the ‘offer of the century’.

That said, it still seems Mbappe will depart PSG in the short or medium term.

Discussing his likely next club, Romano has indicated that Real Madrid do indeed remain favourites for his signature.

He added: “PSG remain convinced that Mbappe already agreed terms with Real Madrid with contract ready.”

However, Al Hilal’s interest now throws a serious spanner into the works.

And it will leave Mbappe with a major decision to make over his next move.

Were to stay in Europe, it’s likely he would need to accept a proposal lesser than his current £700,000 a week deal at PSG.

But were he to move to Saudi Arabia, the Mbappe family would be set up for generations to come in a deal that would make him one of the richest sportsmen on the planet.
