Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has interest from AS Roma and Juventus as well as West Ham United, according to reports. And the 26-year-old could hand Arsenal a significant transfer boost if he snubs a reunion with former manager Jose Mourinho in favour of Serie A rivals Juve.

Erik ten Hag would reportedly be happy to keep McTominay beyond the summer transfer deadline if United’s £45million valuation isn’t met.

But the Scotland international isn’t short of suitors after West Ham were unsuccessful with a £30m offer in July.

And according to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma boss Mourinho wants to reunite with McTominay if Nemanja Matic departs in the coming weeks.

He told wettfreunde: “They [United] want to sell Fred and McTominay. McTominay to Roma depends on Nemanja Matic and if he will leave Roma because he has offers and only has a year left on his contract. He probably wants another year on his contract, but Roma say no to that.

“Obviously, if Matic finds another two-year contract in another club like Rennes or other clubs, and Roma says okay, then they need another player like Matic, and McTominay is perfect.

“But if Matic stays, Roma will find another kind of midfielder, a box-to-box one and Renato Sanches is the one Roma wants to get on loan from PSG.”

And Di Marzio suggested Juventus are also eyeing a midfield of McTominay’s ilk after previously targeting Arsenal star Thomas Partey.

McTominay joining the Old Lady in the coming weeks may allow Mikel Arteta to keep Partey in his midfield engine room ahead of another Premier League title challenge.

“But if Matic goes, then obviously McTominay can become an opportunity for Roma and also for Juventus because they want a physical midfielder,” Di Marzio added.

“They wanted Franck Kessie, but he’s going to Saudi Arabia. Juventus wants a physical midfielder.

“They contacted Arsenal for Thomas Partey. They want a player like him, and McTominay can become an opportunity. This is my opinion.”

McTominay may be open to a move away from his boyhood club after falling down Ten Hag’s pecking order.

Mason Mount’s summer arrival seems to have put McTominay on course for a season on the bench, with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro undroppable players in Ten Hag’s team.

But United’s lofty valuation could deny him an exit for more regular minutes and may require a push from his side if Juventus or Mourinho come knocking.
