Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reportedly had real doubts over how quick Declan Rice was with the ball at his feet.

That’s according to The Independent, which claims that the City boss has changed his mind about Rice now.

Arsenal snapped up Rice ahead of City last month as they secured a £105 million deal to sign him from West Ham.

The Gunners beat Guardiola and Bayern Munich to the 24-year-old’s signature, which was a huge statement of intent for Arteta.

City offered up to £90 million for Rice before walking away from a deal, with the midfielder also said to have had his heart set on a move to North London.

And Guardiola seemingly had real doubts about Rice’s technical quality with the ball at his feet. But he had changed his mind by the time City tried to sign him.

The Independent reports that Guardiola had some ‘reservations’ over how quick Rice is with the ball at his feet.

But it’s noted that the doubts have passed as Rice has developed into a top midfielder.

Indeed, the City boss was ‘convinced’ over the midfielder’s quality by the time he tried to sign him this summer.

Rice has developed into one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League over the past few years and he will undoubtedly improve even further under Arteta.

The Englishman has always possessed brilliant qualities in terms of his defensive output. But his ability on the ball has improved drastically in recent years.

It was no surprise to see him linked with the likes of City and Bayern Munich over the summer, but he always seemed set on linking up with Arteta.
