Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has played down reports linking the Premier League giants with a move for the likes of Bitello of Douglas Luiz while insisting that there is nothing currently in the pipeline.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s opener at home to Nottingham Forest, the Arsenal boss made it clear that any Gunners fans hoping for a flurry of additions in the final few weeks of the window would likely be disappointed.
David Raya, per The Athletic’s uber-reliable David Ornstein, is joining from Brentford.
The Spain international, arguably the best ball-playing goalkeeper in the Premier League (well, before the arrival of Andre Onana at Manchester United that is) will arrive on loan with an option-to-buy clause in his contract.
The overall deal could eventually set Arsenal back a cool £30 million.
As far as Arteta is concerned, however, Raya is likely to be Arsenal’s fourth and final signing of the window as things stand.

“At the moment, we’re not planning to do anything,” the former Manchester City assistant tells Football London. “The window is very unpredictable though.”
Last season’s Premier League runners-up have been linked with the likes of Douglas Luiz and Bitello in recent days. But it seems likely that both players will be placed on the backburner until 2024.
Arsenal had three bids rejected by Aston Villa for the £40 million-rated Luiz last summer but retain an interest (Give Me Sport). Bitello, meanwhile, has been scouted by the Gunners after striking up an eye-catching partnership with veteran Luiz Suarez at Gremio.
The 23-year-old’s agent, however, recently played down reports suggesting Bitello could join fellow Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli at Arsenal before September.
“The European interest in Bitello is evident. He has been a standout player in Brazil for over a season,” Maickel Portela tells Globo Esporte.
“(But) there are currently no looming situations that divert your focus. He follows his work routine at the club. And our relationship with Gremio remains in harmony with the player’s future.”
