BREAKING: Club reportedly offers £100M for Arsenal best player and Arsenal seems close to selling player
Folarin Balogun’s Tottenham move breaks every Arsenal rule but a £100m offer is tempting
Folarin Balogun has been linked with a move to Tottenham and football.london discusses what is enough to tempt Arsenal into a sale.
No, nope, no thank you. That was more or less the initial reaction when I saw the links between Tottenham Hotspur and Folarin Balogun. Suggestions are that after the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, Arsenal’s north London rivals are keen on their American international striker.
Despite there being two weeks until the transfer window closes, Balogun’s future destination appears some way from revealing itself. A number of teams have considered and even made approaches for Balogun including Inter Milan, Monaco and West Ham United.
Fulham have also been mooted alongside Crystal Palace as a potential suitor for Balogun. After losing key goal scorers like Wilfried Zaha who joined Galatasaray and Aleksandar Mitrovic who is close to moving to Al Hilal, a move for Balogun makes sense.
His season on loan with Reims bagged him more than 20 goals and he became one of the most sought-after players of the summer. Many supporters of the Gunners have questioned why he has not been given a chance over Eddie Nketiah, although the No.14 made his case as to why by scoring in the opening game of the campaign against Nottingham Forest.
The suggestions that Tottenham have an interest in Balogun originated from Italy but have since seen some hints that the interest is real based closer to home in recent days. But should Arsenal consider it?
Despite the immediate feeling of no, there could be an argument but it depends very much, as football does these days, on money. However, to discuss that initial and most likely determining feeling of rejection, it stems from the tribalism between the sides.

Arsenal do not sell players to Spurs and haven’t entertained the idea of it for decades. Whilst players like William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor made themselves hated figures in the fan base by eventually ending up on the other side of north London, the Gunners have not made a decision to sell to Spurs for a very long time.
Balogun is also something of an unknown factor. His goals last season highlighted his talent but it’s still very much up in the air whether he would be a success in the Premier League or even another of Europe’s elite divisions.
It is perhaps this uncertainty which has caused Mikel Arteta to be hesitant in throwing him into regular action. Harry Kane was famously at Arsenal as a youngster before being released and moving to Tottenham.
Arsenal do not need another Kane scenario, even though this move would take place at a much older age for Balogun. However, what if the money was indeed significant?
Arsenal have an apparent asking price of around £50million for Balogun and have rejected a £34.4million offer from Monaco, football.london understands. They could be negotiated with but a record sale for the club is certainly the aim.
Yet, even £50million is not enough for me to consider a sale to Tottenham. Yet, what if every single penny they received from the sale of Harry Kane went on Balogun?
I’d be willing it to fail as a die-hard Arsenal supporter, but to take all the profit they received from Kane would be a nice little win for the club. £86.4million was the initial fee, make it £100million and you’ve got a deal; sound good?
