Roy Keane not happy with Christian Eriksen during United’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal
Roy Keane was not happy with the way in which Manchester United surrendered their lead during their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.
United struck midway through the first half, with their first attack of the game, but the lead didn’t last long. It was good play from Arsenal down the left. The Gunners were always looking for the pullback on the edge of the box and they got it through Martin Odegaard.
The finish from the Norwegian was superb but the defending from Christian Eriksen, which was highlighted as a potential issue in the Super Sunday studio, was questionable, to say the least.
Eriksen seemed to lose Odegaard, who had five yards of space and that was all he needed with a rasping finish past Andre Onana.

Roy Keane’s thoughts
Speaking in the studio at half-time, Keane was less than pleased with the manner in which United surrendered their first-half lead.
Barely 30 seconds after United struck through a superb goal from Marcus Rashford, Andre Onana was instructing calm as Odegaard swept through to equalise.
Keane believes that this was the cost of playing Eriksen, a more attacking-minded midfielder, alongside Casemiro against a team hoping to be in the Premier League title race.
“That’s the risk you get with Eriksen playing there (alongside Casemiro) it’s poor,” Keane said. “I thought he was good in the first half but that’s the risk.”

Was Eriksen right to start the game
The midfielder, at times, played as the deepest midfielder, certainly in the build-up. Fans watching may well have terrible memories of Eriksen doing the same thing against Brentford at the beginning last season.
Eriksen, however, seemed comfortable during the game, this is despite the calibre of the opposition that he was facing.
You would imagine when Sofyan Amrabat is available for selection he would replace Eriksen in the lineup. As the deepest midfielder, similar to his days in Serie A, this may well add more ball retention to a midfield crying out for some calmness.
