Kai Havertz reveals honest opinion on Arsenal transfer disaster theories after controversial Chelsea move

Recent Arsenal signing Kai Havertz is ‘relaxed’ about his situation at his new club despite receiving plenty of criticism since he left Chelsea.

In one of the more surprising moves of the summer, Arsenal lured Havertz across London in a deal worth up to £65million. With only 19 Premier League goals behind him from three seasons at Chelsea, many immediately questioned whether he would upgrade his new team and how he would even fit in there.

Arsenal have been adjusting their formation ever since, to varying effect. Havertz is yet to get off the mark for Mikel Arteta’s side and is already experiencing pressure because of his price tag.

In August, Darren Bent described Havertz as a ‘passenger’ with ‘no confidence’ whose presence in the Arsenal lineup has been affecting their balance negatively.

Even more recently, Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that the Germany international ‘looks lost’ and implying that he offers ‘nothing’. Don Hutchison has also pointed out how Havertz’s inclusion has ‘unbalanced’ the team.

With a contract until 2028, Havertz will have to prove his doubters wrong sooner rather than later. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old is confident he can.

Speaking at a press conference while on international duty, he has been asked about the criticism he has been facing. His response is: “Sure, things like that keep you busy.

“But I’ve often had a phase and that you often only see the negative. It’s not the first club where I’m starting over.

“Of course, you want to be successful as quickly as possible, but I know that there are phases like that. I try to approach it in a relaxed manner.”

Havertz has started all five matches for Arsenal this season between the Community Shield and the Premier League. He is yet to even contribute an assist, though, let alone a goal.

Arsenal’s first match after the international break will be against Everton on Sunday, September 17. Before then, Havertz has international fixtures for Germany against Japan and France to focus on.

The former Bayer Leverkusen prospect has 13 goals from 37 senior caps for his national team.
