Kai Havertz’s move to Arsenal has been voted as the worst deal of this summer’s transfer window.

During what was another hectic transfer window, clubs around the world were trying to improve their squad ahead of the 23/24 season.
The British record was broken on two occasions by Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia threw a huge spanner in the works as they managed to lure some of Europe’s biggest names to the Saudi Professional League.

With the transfer window now closed, Havertz’s £65 million deal to Arsenal has been voted as the worst whilst Tottenham Hotspur’s capture of James Maddison was voted as the best.
The survey was conducted by The Athletic, who asked a host of agents who were involved in transfers during the summer transfer window to vote for their best and worst deals.
For the best deals of the summer, Maddison won by a landslide after getting nine votes. Declan Rice was in second place with three, with Jude Bellingham joint third with Harry Kane.

However, Havertz received six votes as the worst signing, with Caicedo’s British record transfer to Chelsea a close second with five votes. Mason Mount’s move to Manchester United was in third place with three votes.
In truth, it has been a tough start to life at Arsenal for Havertz having yet to score or assist for his new team.
Despite that, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has defended Havertz on multiple occasions.

He said: “I tell you what I feel about him, I love him. I see his qualities every day in training, his work-rate is excellent. The stats are what is missing at the moment – to put the ball in the net.
“It’s difficult to ask our supporters more, but my feeling is: ‘give him love, and we will get the best out of him’.”
Arteta continued: “But we have some very, very beautiful examples in the last few years with players that we have given support and love, and they have felt that and just exploded. He has got a lot to give us.”

Mikel Arteta launches defence of Kai Havertz
Mikel Arteta has defended new signing Kai Havertz after the 24-year-old came under scrutiny for his performance against Fulham.
Havertz made the switch across London from Chelsea to Arsenal earlier this summer in a deal worth a reported £65 million, but it hasn’t exactly been plain sailing since his arrival.
The German international had a shocker during the Gunners’ Cross and Volley challenge on their pre-season tour of the United States, with the versatile forward failing to score a single goal throughout the skill game.
He then received widespread stick for his display during Arsenal’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Fulham at the Emirates last weekend, with one particular miss leaving supporters frustrated.

His statistics were then released after the game, leading to further uproar, with the former Bayer Leverkusen star managing just one shot and four touches in the opposition box.
It was a performance that even led Richard Keys to harshly label Havertz “[Mesut] Ozil without the talent”. However, manager Arteta has warned fans to lay off Havertz, insisting that if supporters ‘show him love’, he will come good for Arsenal.
“I tell you what I feel about him, I love him,” Arteta said during a press conference after being asked about Havertz’s early Gunners career.

A reporter likened the reception Havertz has received to that of Gabriel Martinelli when he first signed for Arsenal, before Arteta reeled off a list of first-team stars who were initially doubted by fans.
“Ben White could not play as a full-back”, Arteta quipped, relaying comments he had previously heard from fans.
“Aaron Ramsdale isn’t good enough and now you sign another keeper and it’s a catastrophe! But Aaron Ramsdale wasn’t good enough for Arsenal. Bukayo Saka was a left-back, Granit Xhaka. We have so many examples.”

The Gunners spent £65million to sign Havertz from Chelsea this summer in a deal that raised eyebrows in certain quarters of the football world.
Since then, the German international has started all of his side’s opening four Premier League fixtures but received criticism for failing to make a major impact on his side’s fortunes.
Speaking about the negativity surrounding him, Havertz said via Football.London: “Sure, things like that keep you busy. But I’ve often had a phase where you often only see the negative. It’s not the first club where I’m starting over.

“Of course, you want to be successful as quickly as possible, but I know that there are phases like that. I try to approach it in a relaxed manner.”
One pundit who predicted Havertz’s tough start at the Emirates is Jamie O’Hara. The former Spurs midfield issued a brutal assessment of Havertz following Arsenal Community Shield triumph back in August.
Speaking on talkSPORT at the time, O’Hara said: “Kai Havertz, Arsenal fans can have their say on this, but he can’t hit a barn door.

“We know what he’s going to give you – he’s going to give you hold-up play, he’s going to work hard, but he’s going to let you down when it comes to the crunch.
“And they have to sort that problem because [Gabriel] Jesus is injured. He picks up too many injuries.”
While O’Hara’s criticism appears prophetic at this early juncture of Havertz’s Arsenal career, Mikel Arteta has defended the 24-year-old’s performances.
Following Sunday’s 3-1 victory against Manchester United, Arteta compared the start of the playmaker’s career at the club to when the Spaniard met his wife.

When asked about Havertz’s difficult start to his Gunners career, Arteta told Sky Sports: “I said to him yesterday (Saturday), things are a little bit hard at the beginning.
“When I met my wife at the beginning it was hard to conquer her, I had to try and message and go and go. At the end when she said, ‘Yes, we want to be together’, it’s beautiful.
“I said in the first day you know it’s not that great. So it’s good, but I think the crowd was really good with him today.”

Arsenal’s Kai Havertz criticised after blasting Germany fans for ‘lack of support’
It’s fair to say Kai Havertz has had a tricky start to the season after making a summer switch to Arsenal but has failed to make much of an impact yet at his new club.
The 24-year-old made the move from Chelsea as part of a busy summer of ins and outs at Stamford Bridge and headed to North London to sign for the Gunners in a reported £65 million deal.
However, Havertz’s time at the Emirates Stadium has got off to a difficult start after not yet finding the back of the net for his new side and his struggles have been highlighted, sparking a passionate defence from boss Mikel Arteta.

Havertz is currently away on international duty with the German national team and was named in the starting team which lost 4-1 to Japan in a friendly.
Before the game, Havertz appeared in a press conference and seemed to take aim at the perceived lack of support for the German national team, stemming back to last year’s World Cup in Qatar where they exited the tournament at the group stage.
He said: “Anyone should have noticed when looking back at the World Cup that we didn’t have that much support in the country. We were really on our own.
“When you saw what other nations had for fans and support, I think that was something we were missing a bit.
“As the saying goes, the fans are the twelfth man and provide support even in bad times. We didn’t always feel it 100 percent.”
And these comments from the attacker has drawn the ire of reporter Alfred Draxler, who writes for German publication BILD.
Among the bones of contention Draxler highlighted with Havertz’s comments suggest the forward is “out of touch” for making the remarks and questions if the Arsenal man has spoken to fans regarding why they are actually being critical.
He wrote: “All you can say is: Is it still okay, Mr. Havertz? How out of touch are you actually? Have you ever spoken to a fan? Have you asked him why he is currently very critical of your performance?”
And Draxler also highlighted the great expense which comes for supporters to watch international football in stadiums and the high ticket prices.
He added: “Do you actually know how much a ticket for the game against France on Tuesday in Dortmund costs? I bet you don’t know.
“I’m telling you: between 25 and 100 euros. If a family wants to watch an international match, it’s really, really expensive.”

Arsenal saw a penalty decision overturned by VAR during their Premier League clash against Manchester United after an incident involving Kai Havertz.
The German midfielder went to ground under pressure from Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Casemiro, with referee Anthony Taylor pointing to the spot.
But replays from behind the incident were unclear as to whether there was any contact between Wan-Bissaka and Havertz.
Taylor was subsequently sent over to the screen to check the incident for a second time – much to the dismay of Arteta on the sidelines.
And the official took a matter of seconds to look at the incident before declaring that there would be no penalty.
Arsenal supporters jeered the decision inside the Emirates Stadium, but the game continued with the scores at 1-1.
It was a tough break for Havertz, who has had a challenging start to his Gunners career thus far.
In the first half, the German international had an opportunity to give Arsenal the lead. The ball fell to him inside the area, but he was unable to connect with the ball and the chance passed him by.
Arteta is determined to give his new number 29 consistent game time to show the Arsenal faithful what he can do, and defended the former Chelsea midfielder before the match: “If you focus on one single aspect on the demands that a player has, there are another 100 aspects of that player that he is doing so well.
“There are opinions that are to damage, and other opinions are to construct. The ones that construct are, for me, the important ones.”
Havertz was substituted by Arteta on 76 minutes, with the Gunners boss looking to add fresh legs in an attempt to find a winner over one of the club’s great rivals of the Premier League era.
