Man Utd fans turn on Erik ten Hag as Rasmus Hojlund decision booed by the whole of Old Trafford
Manchester United fans voiced their anger at manager Erik ten Hag in Saturday’s Premier League match against Brighton in the first sign the club’s fans could be turning on the Dutchman.
Hojlund, 20, was handed his full debut for United in the match at Old Trafford but things didn’t go to plan for the Denmark international.
After a bright start from United, they fell behind to a familiar face – Danny Welbeck putting the visitors ahead with a well-taken finish.
Hojlund thought he had equalised for United later in the half but his goal was ruled out by VAR, who judged that the ball had narrowly gone out of play in the build-up.
ADVERT
The former Atalanta striker, who joined United in a £72m move from the Italian club earlier this summer, worked hard to find an equaliser in the second half but it was Brighton who would score next – Pascal Gross doubling the visitors’ advantage.
Ten Hag then angered the majority of the home support by bringing Hojlund off for Anthony Martial.
The decision sparked an angry reaction as Old Trafford collectively booed the decision.
Things got worse for Ten Hag minutes later when Brighton went further ahead, Joao Pedro scoring for the visitors to compound the home side’s misery.
As was the case with the Hojlund substitution, Pedro’s goal was followed by widespread boos in the stadium.
Thankfully for Ten Hag, United swiftly responded to that goal with substitute Hannibal Mejbri pulling out back with a superb individual effort.

Rasmus Hojlund could be handed full Man Utd debut vs Brighton as training clue spotted
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag could hand a full debut to Rasmus Hojlund against Brighton on Saturday amid a training ‘clue’ being spotted.
Hojlund joined United from Atalanta for a fee totalling £72 million at the beginning of August, but was ruled out of the early part of the season due to a back injury.
The 20-year-old make his debut off the bench during the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, where he impressed during a brief cameo.
Now, he could be awarded his full debut against Brighton after a training ‘clue’.
Rasmus Hojlund in line for Man Utd debut?
As per the Daily Mail, fellow forward Anthony Martial was pictured arriving at Carrington on Thursday morning for a training session.
He was then pictured leaving the training ground minutes later – with the reason behind his swift exit unclear at this stage.
If Martial does not start on Saturday, however, it would open the door for Hojlund to make his first start since his big-money move to United last month.
Ahead of Arsenal’s win over United, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta broke his golden rule by talking about the Dane, describing him as a ‘huge talent’.
He said: “I prefer not to speak about players. He’s a huge talent, and everybody is talking really highly of him and he will have to prove that in this league.”
Speaking about his subsequent debut, Hojlund told Danish outlet Bold that he has been pleased with his ‘positive’ start to life at Old Trafford, despite his injury: “It has been positive. I myself think that I made a good jump-in, and I hope that there are more minutes after the national team break.
“We have some exciting matches ahead. We have to face Brighton this weekend and Bayern Munich in the next midweek, so I’m really looking forward to that.”

Man Utd duo drop positive injury updates in boost for Erik ten Hag
Manchester United have been handed a double injury boost in the lead-up to their clash against Brighton.
The Red Devils have had a frustrating start to the season, losing to both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, which has seen them drop into the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Erik ten Hag will be hoping new signings Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Reguilon will help add stability to his midfield and back line.
And in another boost for the United boss, midfield duo Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo could return to the squad soon after they posted encouraging updates on social media.
Mainoo, 18, sustained an ankle injury during United’s pre-season tour of the United States. The midfielder impressed Ten Hag and was awarded a start against Real Madrid at the NRG Stadium in Texas.
Unfortunately, the teenager was on the pitch for less than five minutes before he had to be replaced by Christian Eriksen and he could be seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches after the game.
However, the Englishman has since shared an update on his recovery. Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Mainoo uploaded a picture of himself in full United kit, accompanied by a clock emoji, suggesting it might not be long before he’s back.
Ten Hag was asked about Mainoo’s progress before United’s defeat to Tottenham last month. The Red Devils boss said: “Not at this moment available, but I think he will in two months he will be available, for winter is coming up he will absolutely have his games.”
Meanwhile, Diallo has also provided an update on his recovery after he picked up a knee injury during pre-season.
The 20-year-old winger posted a picture of his knee on Instagram, accompanied by the caption: “Step by step”.
Diallo has been tipped to replace Jadon Sancho at Old Trafford, with the winger linked with a late move to the Saudi Pro League.
‘Mentality monster’ – Rasmus Hojlund delivers incredibly passionate speech after Denmark game
Rasmus Hojlund impressed Manchester United fans as he delivered a rousing speech following Denmark’s big 1-0 victory over Finland.
Hojlund, who made his Man United debut against Arsenal before the international break, entered the fray as a second-half substitute in Denmark’s Euro 2024 qualifier in Helsinki.
And the Danes claimed all three points as Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored four minutes from time to secure a crucial win.
Denmark occupy one of the qualification spots in Group H as they look to secure their place in next summer’s tournament in Germany.
Kasper Hjulmand’s side still have work to do to book their ticket for Euro 2024, with Slovenia also on 13 points while Finland and Kazakhstan have 12 points on the board.
But Hojlund is confident of his side’s passage as he addressed the travelling support following their victory over Finland on Sunday.
Speaking into a megaphone, he said: “I heard you all, and your passion is everything in football. We are going to the fking Euros! Fking come on.”
At just 20, Hojlund’s gesture shows the elite mentality he possesses as well as his leadership qualities.
He made an impression on his Premier League bow following his £72 million move from Atalanta during the summer transfer window.
His cameo appearance at the Emirates excited Man United supporters on social media as he showed a glimpse of what he can offer up front.
Man Utd sign goalkeeper Kie Plumley as Erik ten Hag bolsters squad with eighth summer signing
Manchester United have signed young goalkeeper Kie Plumley as Erik ten Hag completes his eighth signing of the summer.
The Red Devils have already added Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Altay Altay Bayindir to their squad over the transfer window.
While Sergio Ruguilon and Sofyan Amrabat arrived on loan from Tottenham and Atalanta respectively.
But despite the transfer window closing two weeks ago, Ten Hag is still managing to add players to his weaponry, with Plumley the latest name to join the Old Trafford club.
The 20-year-old Englishman has signed a deal after he was released by Oxford United at the end of last season, where he gained plenty of experience through a series of loan spells.
Plumley never made a senior appearance during his time with Oxford, but he was named on the bench seven times for the League One club.
And he has now got his dream move, with the boyhood United fan expected to provide a back-up role within United’s youth sides over the coming season, having been registered as one of the eligible U21 players on the Premier League website.
It is no surprise that United are keen to invest in the goalkeeping position following the release of David de Gea and the of Dean Henderson, who joined Nottingham Forest for £20 million.
United also sold young goalkeepers Nathan Bishop and Matej Kovar, as Ten Hag clears his wage book.
And Plumley may be called upon before he knows it, with current no. 1 Andre Onana expected to be absent for a key chunk of the Premier League season after Cameroon qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations, including a crunch match against Tottenham Hotspur.
