Arsenal star William Saliba has suffered a fresh injury which could see him miss the Premier League clash against Bournemouth. The Frenchman has started every game this season, minus the Carabao Cup clash with Brentford earlier this week, after recovering from a significant back problem which kept him out of the team for the last few months of the 2022/23 campaign.

Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Fabio Vieira are the other names to have picked up issues in the last seven days which make them doubts for the Bournemouth game. Discussing his injury list and the club’s training decisions, Arteta revealed the injuries to Saliba and Vieira with a late decision to be made on their involvement.

“They are all in the same pool,” he replied when asked about Saka and Trossard’s availability linking it to the fact Rice and Martinelli hadn’t trained. “Willy [William Saliba] as well had a knock. Fabio wasn’t involved in the last game. We have a few. We have to see and adapt to the situation because that’s a big number.”

Last season this injury crisis would have hit Arsenal significantly harder, but the business done over the summer and the emergence of several fringe players will undoubtedly help matters. In the latter section, Emile Smith Rowe, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Reiss Nelson will be chomping at the bit for another chance after the trio shined in the mid-week victory over Brentford.

The Japan international was preferred in the centre to replace Saliba as opposed to Ben White who remained at right-back which hints Saliba could be absent. Although the concerns are prominent for Saka and Rice, given the latter was forced to come off because of the issue and Saka was seen visibly limping, the extent of Saliba’s injury looks to have been revealed.

According to the Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel, Saliba’s knock that has made him a doubt is a foot issue with it also noted the problems plaguing Saka and Rice not serious enough to stop them from playing, but ahead of a crucial week, the duo could be rested.
