Emile Smith Rowe left Bournemouth in tears yesterday despite Arsenal picking up the three points.
Emile Smith Rowe left The Vitality Stadium in tears yesterday, despite Arsenal producing a brilliant performance which lead to the Gunners beating Bournemouth by four goals and keeping a clean sheet. Arsenal now sit just one point behind Manchester City who still lead the way at the top of the table despite losing to Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
Arsenal beat Bournemouth very comfortably in the end thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka, Martin Odgeaard, Kai Havertz and Ben White.
Kai Havertz had gone ten games without scoring in an Arsenal shirt before yesterday, when Martin Odegaard decided for the German to take the penalty with the Gunners already two goals ahead. Havertz made no mistake from the spot as he scored his first Arsenal goal which will be a massive weight off his shoulders.
Emile Smith Rowe is going through a similar situation at the moment with his last goal for Arsenal coming in April 2022, well over a year ago now. Arsenal’s number ten struggled with injuries last season which meant he went 499 days without starting a game for the Gunners before being named in the team which faced Brentford in the Carabao Cup last week.
However Emile Smith Rowe is determined for this season to be different. Arsenal’s number ten says he feeling fitter than ever after producing a promising performance in the Carabao Cup last week, as well as coming off the bench during yesterday’s victory on the south coast.

Emile Smith Rowe: “Do I have doubts? Not so much anymore. I’ve got to change my mentality just to go for it. I’ve got nothing to lose. I’m trying to change inside me. I used to have a lot of doubts, used to question my confidence at times. Now I’m strong, feeling really fit.
“The gaffer has really helped me with that [confidence]. He was helping me through my injury and pulled me for chats about how I can be mentally stronger.
“I really believe in myself now. I have all the right people around me, my family and friends, everyone at the club always willing to help every day on and off the pitch. I’ve got to keep going, keep believing and I’m sure the chances will come.”
Emile Smith Rowe was seen in tears after yesterday’s victory as he missed two good chances after being substituted on with ten minutes remaining. He clearly felt he should have done better with the opportunities that feel to him, however as long as the chances keep coming then I have no doubt he’ll put one away soon.
He needs a goal and he’ll have another opportunity to get one when Arsenal take on RC Lens in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
