A new angle has emerged in the lead-up to Newcastle’s goal has emerged and Arsenal fans are furious.

The Magpies picked up all three points at St James’ Park after a feisty encounter with the Gunners, winning 1-0.

Tensions reached boiling point in the first half, with many fans believing Bruno Guimaraes should have been sent off for elbowing Jorginho in the face.

However, VAR weren’t interested in taking a look, angering Arsenal fans at half-time.

VAR then took centre stage once more around the hour mark, after Anthony Gordon gave the Magpies the lead.

Jacob Murphy’s snap-shot looked to be heading out for a goal-kick, but Joe Willock kept the move alive on the touchline, before digging out a cross into Joelinton.

Under pressure from Gabriel Magalhaes, the ball bobbled into the path of Gordon, who smashed it home from close range to send St James’ Park into ecstasy.

A lengthy VAR check then ensued, as officials initially checked if the ball stayed in, before checking if there was a foul on Gabriel and an offside against Gordon.

After a comically long wait, referee Stuart Atwell pointed to the centre circle to confirm the goal.

However, a new angle has since emerged which appears to show the ball was out of play before Willock got there.

Fans think Bruno Guimaraes should have been sent off against Arsenal for an incident involving Jorginho.

It has been a feisty first half at St James’ Park, with the scores all level at the break.

However, there have been plenty of talking points from the first half, with VAR at the centre of controversy once again in the Premier League.

After VAR decided Kai Havertz’s sliding challenge on Sean Longstaff on the touchline was just a yellow card, Guimaraes may have escaped a red.

Meanwhile, supporters have slammed the decision “disgraceful” on social media.

“knew exactly what he was doing. Both he and Havertz should be off,” one person tweeted.

“Absolutely disgusting from VAR,” another added.

While a third wrote: “Now this is a red card, going in with the elbow like that…. The games absolutely gone. One rule for one player and one rule for another. It’s crazy how disgracefully awful the consistency in such a high level sport.”

“Clear red. It was intentional as well,” a fourth tweeted.

Newcastle United are at risk of losing another key player ahead of their Premier League clash against Arsenal, following the news of Sandro Tonali’s ban.

Tonali has been handed a 10-month suspension for breaching betting rules, the Italian Football Federation confirmed on Thursday.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who only joined Newcastle from AC Milan in July, came off the bench during the Magpies’ 1-0 Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

However, that will be the last time he features for the club until August, with the Italian also set to miss the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany should his country qualify.

Meanwhile, fellow midfielder Bruno Guimaraes could give Eddie Howe another headache as he prepares to face Arsenal in just over a weeks’ time.

That is because the Brazilian has already been booked four times this season, and just one more booking against Wolves on Saturday would see him suspended for Newcastle’s following league game against the Gunners.

The Tyneside club have their Carabao Cup Round of 16 clash against Manchester United sandwiched in between those two fixtures, as Newcastle seek revenge for last season’s final.

But fortunately for Guimaraes, bookings in that competition will not carry over to the Premier League, meaning he must simply avoid picking up a card at Molineux in order to play against Arsenal.

Speaking after Newcastle’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend, Howe was asked if he would attempt to tone down the 25-year-old’s aggression on the pitch.

Although the Magpies boss admitted that his aggression was part of Guimaraes’ style of play, stating: “It’s like any player, reining in [his aggression] maybe not because you take something away from his natural game.

“It’s the bookings that are needless that we want to try and take out of our games.

“The rules now mean there will be more yellow cards so the referees [have] definitely tightened up over the summer in terms of discipline, time-wasting and loads of little things to the game where you can and some of our players have picked up a yellow card for nothing, or perceived nothing.

“More yellow cards means more suspensions so we have to be careful. But certainly, I don’t want to be taking aggression out of anyone’s game, it’s the indiscipline ones that we want to try and eradicate.”

Newcastle to launch stunning January move for former Arsenal midfielder who could cost bargain £17million
Newcastle United are interested in signing former Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos.

Ceballos spent two seasons on loan at the north London side between 2019 and 2021, before returning to parent club Real Madrid, where he has remained ever since.

Indeed, the 27-year-old only signed new terms with Los Blancos back in June, penning an extension that will take him through to 2027.

Yet it appears he is already on the cusp of leaving.

Ceballos has been restricted to just 73 minutes across four games since returning from injury in September, and according to reports in Spain, as per Team Talk, Newcastle has been alerted to the situation.

Indeed, the Magpies’ interest has been triggered by uncertainty over Sandro Tonali due to the betting allegations against the midfielder.

With Tonali facing a potential ban, Newcastle are said to be open to offering €20million (£17million) to secure Ceballos’ services in the new year. Aston Villa are also said to be interested.

Tonali came off the bench to a warm reception as Newcastle dismantled Crystal Palace 4-0 in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Saturday.

After the game Newcastle boss Howe said: “I think the hardest part is ahead regardless of what happens.

“Immediately, you get a lot of attention and people are talking about the situation. He’s had the love of the supporters today, but that’s difficult to maintain over a long period of time. Who knows what’s ahead?

“I just think it’s great for him to know he’s got the support, not just of the senior management at the football club and the manager, but also the support of the supporters and they’re the most important people.”

Man United were dumped out of the Carabao Cup as Newcastle secured a big 3-0 win at Old Trafford.

Fans made their feelings clear on Ten Hag as just ONE Man United player acknowledged the Old Trafford faithful after the result.

Newcastle’s official social media account poked fun at the Red Devils after booking their spot in the next round of the competition.

Newcastle fans in attendance on Wednesday enjoyed themselves as they were in full voice, with over seven thousand supporters making the trip to Manchester.

And they chanted not one but THREE ruthless songs towards Man United and Ten Hag.

Copying Manchester City’s chant from last weekend, they sang: “Old Trafford is falling down, Ten Hag is a f**king clown, Glazers staying 10 more years, Geordie Boys are on the beers!

Aimed at Ten Hag, Newcastle fans chanted: “You’re getting sacked in the morning!”

They could also be heard singing: “Are you Sunderland in disguise?”

The pressure is mounting on Ten Hag, who vowed to fight on amid the club’s slump this season.

“I understand when the results are not there it is logical they are questioning that,” he said.

“But I am confident I can do it. At this moment we are in a bad place and I take responsibility for it.

“But I am a fighter. I see it as a challenge.”

Eighth-placed Man United resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday when they take on Fulham.
