The unexpected reasons Arsenal shouldn’t complete Victor Osimhen transfer amid January links

Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window, but there may be some unexpected problems.

As the January transfer window draws closer, speculation continues to grow over which players each team should make a move for to bolster their second half of the campaign. For Arsenal, it could be a season-defining market that will either make or break their title ambitions.

The Gunners spent heavily in the summer, totalling roughly £200million in arrivals, following a year that saw them go close to winning the Premier League but narrowly missing out. After 13 matches of this season, the side have returned to the top of the league and are well well-placed to challenge once again.

One area that may be strengthened in January to give the team the boost they require is at centre-forward, landing a player that can bring that clinical edge to the team. Ivan Toney and Dusan Vlahovic have been heavily linked with a switch, along with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

The latter may be an attractive option as he is still relatively young, has just over one-year left on his contract and has title-winning experience. His goal record speaks for itself too, but it may be a deal that is less feasible once a few factors are taken into consideration.

This first one relates directly to January, which is the fact that the Nigerian international will feature at the African Cup of Nations during that month. Not only could that distract from getting a deal done, but he would be unavailable until the side are knocked out or the end of the tournament.

That would rule him out for some time, coming as a slight disadvantage to the team as they look to push through a tough start to the year. Beyond that there’s been a few injury troubles, as well as the sheer financial package it could cost to get the deal over the line in the end.

For Arsenal to make such a move would be one of ambition, but like their other big moves, it could be a costly one that has to be the right deal. If Osimhen can be to the Gunners what Erling Haaland is to Manchester City, it could be the difference in a title race, but there are some fair doubts to be had.
