Arsenal received a Premier League title boost after Manchester City ace Rodri picked up his fifth booking of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.

In a pulsating clash at the Etihad Stadium, Rodri clumsily caught Pedro Porro late and was subsequently given a caution in the 34th minute. While fairly meaningless in the moment, such an action could have a big impact on the title race.

The yellow card means that the 27-year-old will miss City’s match against Aston Villa at Villa Park in midweek. If this season’s statistics are anything to go by, Pep Guardiola should be concerned.

Rodri has become one of Man City’s main men after taking over from Fernandinho in defensive midfield. City have lost both league games he has missed due to suspension this season (Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers).

Guardiola’s reluctance to deploy Kalvin Phillips in his place means that City have been playing with a natural defensive-midfielder in Rodri’s absence. It has left the English champions looking a little unbalanced in some of those losses this season.

Worse for City is that Villa have won every single Premier League home match this season (six). Only Liverpool can match that statistic.

Jack Grealish also picked up a fifth booking of the season against Spurs so he will also miss out against Villa. However, the former Aston Villa star has been more of a bit-part player in City’s current campaign.

Unai Emery’s team face City in the Midlands on Wednesday night. Even though Emery did not massively enjoy his time in charge of the Gunners, he could do Mikel Arteta’s men a massive favour by beating their title rivals.

Arsenal face Luton Town at Kenilworth Road in a match that looks like a great opportunity to continue their winning streak. However, Gunners fans cannot take any match for granted in their pursuit for silverware.
