Arsenal and Liverpool are set to face off in a huge clash at Anfield, but the Gunners can cause more damage than just picking up a win, with suspension risks aplenty for the hosts

Arsenal can hand Liverpool four huge title blows when they face off against their rivals in a top of the table clash on Saturday afternoon. The Gunners go into the tie in top spot, having had a decent start to their campaign, following on from last season’s disappointment in finishing as runners-up.
A summer of heavy investment has seen the side look less fluid in attack but more solid at the back, swapping chaos for control with mixed results. In some clashes, it has been far too close for comfort as points were dropped against the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa on the road.
However, in the big ties so far, there has been a greater sense of the game plan working, none more so than in the win over Manchester City. With the team sitting top, they will be hoping for a positive result against Liverpool to fuel their title charge and take advantage of City’s slow start.
That’s not to dismiss the title ambitions of the Reds though, who could leapfrog the north London outfit with victory at Anfield on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp has revitalised the squad after failing to make the top four last campaign, with their threat in attack earning plenty of points so far.
“It’s going to be a great atmosphere,” Mikel Arteta said in his preview of the clash. “The two teams are in a really good moment, really good position, really strong position. They are going to be well placed to win it and to go for it. It’s going to be an intense match.”

As much as Arsenal will be going into the tie thinking about their own hopes in the league this season, there is also the possibility to deal some damage to rivals Liverpool. The win in itself would be a blow to the Reds, who would slip four points behind the Gunners while allowing Aston Villa the chance to leapfrog them and Man City the opportunity to close the gap.
Then there’s suspension issues that are on the cards, with Klopp facing the possibility of losing three of his stars for the following match against Burnley on Boxing Day. Those three at risk at Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Wataru Endo, having all racked up four yellow cards.
The former has four yellow cards, meaning if he picks up a booking then he will miss the clash against Burnley in the coming days. If the latter two pick up a booking, they will be one away from a ban that could see them miss out on a tie with Newcastle in the following week.
Having already played in several cup competitions and during a busy festive period, the last thing Klopp will need is some of his key stars missing out following a loss to Arsenal. The Gunners could look to inflict just that on Saturday, furthering their own title ambitions in the process.
