Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez is the latest player to be linked with a January transfer to Arsenal. The north Londoners have a wealth of options in attack, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Eddie Nketiah and Kai Havertz all capable of operating at centre-forward for Mikel Arteta’s side.
However, none of those mentioned can be described as reliable goalscorers, something that may be needed for the Gunners if they wish to win the Premier League title this season. The likes of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney of Brentford have both been mooted as potential transfer targets for Arsenal and another name that has now been linked is the aforementioned Gimenez.
According to The Guardian, the Mexican international is likely to cost around £60million, a fee that would make him the fourth most expensive signing in the Gunners’ history if he were to sign. Gimenez has established himself as one of the most reliable goalscorers in Europe recently.
In fact, the 22-year-old scored 31 Eredivisie goals in 2023, eclipsing Luis Suarez’s calendar year record of 30 with Ajax back in 2009. Dutch icon Ruud Gullit has even claimed that the youngster would be an ideal fit at the Emirates Stadium.
He told GamblingZone: “I think Santiago Gimenez would be a good fit for Arsenal as Feyenoord play similar football. He’d be used to that and it’d be easier for him to fit in.
“Chelsea are searching for identity at the moment, and Gimenez would be arriving into a struggling team. I’d rather go to a team that knows exactly what they have to do.
