Mikel Arteta will likely find his hands tied when it comes to completing a major transfer swoop in the January window. Due to their £200million summer splurge, FFP restrictions may prevent the Gunners from adding any significant depth to their squad, but there is still a chance some major business is completed.

Ahead of the winter window, an update was provided on Arsenals plans by David Ornstein. “Cover at the back offers another dilemma,” wrote Ornstein for the Athletic in his latest transfer window guide.
“The absences of Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu at full-back — where Partey has also featured — arguably makes defence the area worthiest of strengthening but when everyone is fit, Arsenal are well stocked. So no guarantees but it would not be a total shock if there was a reinforcement here, perhaps on a short-term basis.”
While a loan signing would be a sensible acquisition, marquee player sales could allow Arsenal to break the bank for one signing with a new name linked who could be the perfect option. Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez has been linked with a Premier League switch and now The Guardian, have revealed the Mexican international is likely to cost around £60million.
Given he has already scored 18 goals this season, a tally that Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli and Havertz only hit with their respective tallies combined, it would be a very shrewd investment. Many pundits believe Arsenal can win the title but there are still concerns about the lack of a natural goal scorer but signing Gimenez would see those concerns dissipate and thus a Premier League title prediction from Paul Merson come true.

“I think Liverpool might think they should’ve shaded it in the second half but I thought it was a proper game of football, end to end, both teams wanting to win and played at an electric pace,” he said on Sky Sports. “Arsenal are a different team now, they learnt a lot last season and putting Declan rice has taken them to another level in my opinion.
“I think they go on and win it now. My mate said Arsenal would win the league at the start of the season but I said ‘nah’. I think they would’ve rolled over last season and gone and got beat by 4 or 5 but they didn’t, they hung in there and I think they could’ve nicked it.”
