Arsenal eyeing £70m forward deemed ‘one of the best strikers in the world’
Arsenal have reportedly rekindled their interest in Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez ahead of the January transfer window.
The Gunners are currently struggling on the attacking front. As good as Gabriel Jesus is, he’s not really a clinical finisher and focal point for the team.
Arsenal will likely look around in January to see if they can bring one such player in, but that’s obviously much easier said than done.
According to CBS Sports, the Gunners have four strikers on their radar. Namely Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface and Martinez.
At the same time, the sports outlet acknowledged that none of these players are expected to be available in the January transfer window.
And why would they? Unless a club is in financial trouble or the player is especially eager to leave, you’re unlikely to see a club sell one of their main scoring sources mid-season.
Indeed, in Martinez’s case, he has gone public (AP News) to say he’d sign a new contract with Inter “tomorrow” and is apparently close to finalising a new deal.

While it’s unlikely Arsenal would be able to sign him in January, he’d certainly be a good shout for the Gunners, as he’s a world-class forward in his prime with an amazing CV.
In 261 outings for Inter Milan, he has registered 119 goals and 40 assists. This season alone, he has 17 goals and four assists from 23 Nerazzurri appearances.
And for Argentina, Martinez has 21 goals from 54 outings and has won a World Cup and a Copa America with the Albiceleste.
In addition, Mauricio Pochettino previously described him as one of the best strikers in the world a couple of years ago.
“Lautaro Martinez is one of the best strikers in the world,” he said back in 2020, as per football.london.
“It’s not just for what he does now, but for what his potential means going forward. If you start looking at hitmen for the big clubs, clearly his name has to be in there.”
Reportedly valued at around £70million in the past, Martinez has been heavily linked with a move to England over the past few transfer windows.
However, barring an unexpected turn of events, it looks as though he’ll still be playing in the black and blue of Inter for the foreseeable.
