Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has suggested Everton could receive a two-point deduction when their second financial hearing takes place next week.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted he hopes for a “suspended sentence” but acknowledges it will be unlikely with the Premier League pushing for punishment.

Everton face a second disciplinary hearing next week for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the 2022-23 campaign.

The Premier League have committed to announcing a verdict by 8 April to allow ample time for a potential appeal.

Everton have already been deducted six points (reduced from 10 after an appeal) for a separate breach of PSR and sit four points above the relegation zone.

Wyness claimed the “double jeopardy” involved after the first case means any further deduction should be minimal.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “From everything I’ve been reading so far, I think we might be looking at something like two points – for a deduction of eight in total.

“Hopefully I’m wrong, and there’s a suspended sentence of some type.

“But these commissions and the Premier League seem very insistent on giving out points deductions for a breach of these particular rules.

“However, the double jeopardy involved is a really serious mitigating factor and they can’t overlook that – hence why I think it’ll be two points.”
