Patrick Bamford has shared his verdict on the decision not to award Leeds United a penalty against Sunderland last night.
Leeds were held to a very disappointing 0-0 draw by the Black Cats at Elland Road in a game where they really struggled to create any clear-cut chances across 90 minutes.
Since the international break, Leeds have been able to pick up just five points from their four matches in what has been an extremely worrying run of form at the worst possible time.
Just like on Saturday, Leeds missed the chance to move top of the table after Leicester City’s defeat at Millwall, with Ipswich Town now having all the incentive to make their move tomorrow.
Despite Leeds’ struggles in the match, they did have a stonewall penalty turned down in the second half which understandably left the players incensed out on the pitch.
Bamford shares immediate thoughts on if Leeds should have had a penalty
Crysencio Summerville delivered a corner in from the left and with Joe Rodon leaping above everyone in the air, he had the ball taken right off his head.
Unfortunately for Leeds, it was the outstretched arm of Luke O’Nien which stopped him from getting a header away, as he effectively punched the ball away from danger.
It was a decision which very much summarised a dismal refereeing performance, allowing Sunderland to take their time with several restarts, before then awarding just three minutes of added time.

Bamford was asked to deliver his thoughts on the decision not to award a penalty on Sky Sports post-match, and says he could not understand how it was not given amid the referee’s position.
He said: “To be honest I thought he was going to give it because the referee was looking straight at it, but sometimes it goes for you and sometimes it doesn’t.”
Penalty decision poor, but Leeds struggle again
In a promotion race as tight as this Leeds need decisions as clear as that to go their way, but ultimately it was another abject performance.

Leeds were up against a side who were happy to sit deep and soak up pressure, yet they had no answers to break them down, with just one shot on target in 90 minutes.
Much of that unfortunately has to fall at the door of Daniel Farke, as he picked the same side that was so poor at Coventry, before leaving it incredibly late to make changes.
It is likely to be more of the same against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday and failure to win that game could be curtains for Leeds’ promotion push.
