Everton threatened with 17-point deduction – ‘it’s a disaster’, says Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has hit out at the Premier League for recommending the Merseysiders be deducted 17 points for their financial breaches.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed “something’s not right” in the top-flight’s boardroom.
Everton were deducted two points for their second breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) on 8 April following an independent hearing.
The Toffees have now been docked eight points in total in the 2023-24 campaign and are in relegation danger with seven games left this term.
However, the documents from both cases show that the Premier League were pushing for Everton to be deducted 17 points in total for two breaches of PSR.
Wyness hits out after Premier League pushed for 17-point Everton deduction
Wyness has hit out at top-flight chiefs, contrasting that potential punishment to the nine-point penalty given to clubs for entering administration.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The Premier League have tried to take away 17 points from Everton if you look at all the cases.
“That’s five points for the second case and 12 for the first.

“You only get nine points for going into administration – something is not right.
“This is a disaster. Nobody can understand the logic, and any person with common sense will agree.”
