Everton manager Sean Dyche is set to prioritise results over attractive football as the Toffees continue their fight to maintain their Premier League status against Chelsea on Monday.
With a total of eight points deducted this season for financial irregularities, their situation has become increasingly precarious. The narrow 1-0 win against Burnley last weekend has gained significance in their survival quest, especially after the additional two-point deduction was confirmed.
Dyche, who has been frustrated by his side’s inability to convert opportunities into victories, is prepared to adopt a more pragmatic approach in the remaining seven fixtures – starting at Stamford Bridge.
“We had to find a way to win and that’ll be the next seven games, finding a way to win,” Dyche emphasised.
Despite making progress in their style of play, the lack of wins forced a tactical shift which the players executed well, delivering a performance focused on securing three points.
“That might be needed the next game and the one after, we’ll see, but the players are motivated without a doubt.”

Looking ahead, Everton face a challenging away match against Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea on Monday. The Toffees have already bested Chelsea 2-0 earlier this season and will be hoping to exploit Chelsea’s recent stumbles against Burnley and Sheffield United.
“Mauricio is someone I’ve always had respect for, always liked the work that he puts in,” said the former Burnley boss. “Obviously a topsy-turvy style season by their standards, a lot of changes there, a lot of changes in culture I’m sure from the way he works. We delivered a good performance (in December) but that doesn’t guarantee the next one.
“They’re a good outfit, they’ve spent a lot of money over the last few years, which everyone knows, and they have some quality without doubt so we’ve got to make sure we deliver. I believe in the side, I believe that we’ve been playing well, I believe over a season it pays you back. We’ve got to continue the daily work and put it into practice when the whistle blows.”
