According to the Blackpool Gazette, Dembele’s current club, Brest, has received an order from UEFA to play their Champions League games 70 miles away due to stadium regulations, which could impact Dembele’s future at the club.
Dembele, who spent last season on loan at Blackpool, has been linked to various Premier League and Championship sides, with Leeds United reportedly “keen” on signing him. The 21-year-old has a contract with Brest until the summer of 2026, but his future is uncertain, with the newspaper reporting that it’s unclear whether he will stay at Brest or leave during this transfer window.
Dembele’s career has been marked by both promise and uncertainty. He burst onto the scene as a youngster in the Celtic academy, catching the eye with his impressive skills and playing for their under-20s at just 13. He signed his first professional contract at 15 and made his debut less than a year later against Hearts. However, he struggled to establish himself at Celtic, making just nine further appearances in all competitions across the next three seasons.
In a surprising move, Dembele joined Brest in Ligue 1, where he made just 18 appearances in two years before moving to Blackpool in League One last season. However, it was at Blackpool that Dembele finally showed the ability that his potential had promised, with an excellent season that saw him score eight goals and provide 13 assists across 29 starts and 10 substitute appearances.
Leeds United fans are eager to see Dembele join their club, and it’s easy to see why. With his pace, skill, and vision, Dembele has the potential to be a game-changer for the Whites. And while there is interest from Premier League clubs, a move to Leeds could be beneficial for Dembele’s development.
