Man Utd make ‘final’ Jarrad Branthwaite transfer bid and eye Liverpool target as alternative

Manchester United have made a final bid of £43m for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, but the Toffees are holding out for a higher price. United have told Everton they will not go above £43m, but the Goodison Park club wants closer to £70m for the young England international. If a deal cannot be agreed, United will turn to French defender Leny Yoro as an alternative. Yoro, 18, has been impressing in French football and has been linked to Liverpool and Real Madrid. United have been keeping tabs on Yoro and have sounded out Lille about signing him. He is valued at around £40m.

Everton are adamant they will not sell Branthwaite for anything less than their valuation, citing United’s £80m spend on Harry Maguire in 2019 as a guide. However, United insist that deal was done in a different era before Covid and the introduction of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).Meanwhile, United are also considering triggering the £45m release clause of Bologna striker Zirkzee.

The 23-year-old can play in various attacking positions and was recently drafted into the Holland squad for Euro 2024. His arrival at United could push Marcus Rashford closer to an Old Trafford exit. Rashford, who missed out on the Euro 2024 squad, will be sold if any club matches United’s valuation of the 26-year-old.In other news, Liverpool have already submitted a bid for Leny Yoro, and the young defender is seen as a top talent in French football. United’s pursuit of Branthwaite and Yoro highlights their need for defensive reinforcements, and the club is willing to spend big to get their targets.

The transfer saga has sparked debate among fans, with some believing United should prioritize other areas of the team. However, the club’s hierarchy is convinced that strengthening the defense is key to success in the upcoming season. As the transfer window heats up, United’s pursuit of Branthwaite and Yoro will be closely watched by fans and pundits alike. Will the Red Devils get their men, or will they be forced to look elsewhere? Only time will tell.
