Former Aston Villa player Alan Hutton has revealed that Leeds United are interested in signing Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare on a free transfer this summer. O’Hare’s contract with Coventry expires at the end of June, and Leeds are looking to capitalize on the situation by bringing him to Elland Road without paying a transfer fee.Hutton, who played alongside O’Hare at Villa, believes the midfielder would be a great addition to Leeds’ squad.
“He fits the bill that Leeds like, he’s an exciting player,” Hutton told Football Insider. “Especially if they’re going to lose somebody like [Crysencio] Summerville or [Georginio] Rutter who could possibly be leaving this summer as well.”O’Hare has impressed in the Championship, making 31 appearances and scoring six goals for Coventry last season. His performances have also caught the attention of West Ham, who are reportedly interested in signing him.Leeds United are looking to strengthen their squad this summer, and O’Hare’s availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive option.
The Whites are keen to comply with profit and sustainability regulations, and signing O’Hare would be a shrewd move in that regard.Coventry City have already signed Jack Rudoni from Huddersfield Town, reportedly for a fee of around £5 million. Rudoni’s arrival may pave the way for O’Hare’s departure, as the two players occupy similar positions on the field.
O’Hare started his career at Aston Villa, making his senior debut in 2017. However, he failed to establish himself in the first team and was loaned out to Carlisle United and Coventry before signing a permanent deal with the Sky Blues in 2020.Hutton believes O’Hare has the technical ability and experience to thrive at Leeds. “I know Callum O’Hare well, I’ve played alongside him when I was at Villa. He’s very technically gifted, he’s got an eye for a pass, and he can score goals, and he’s still at a good age and he’s got experience at this level.”Leeds United are yet to make an official approach for O’Hare, but Hutton’s comments suggest that the Whites are seriously considering a move for the midfielder. With his contract expiring at the end of June, O’Hare’s future is uncertain, but a move to Leeds could be a great opportunity for him to showcase his talents in the Premier League.
