“A wildcard option” – Portsmouth urged to sign ex-AFC Bournemouth defender

Portsmouth fan pundit Miltos Ioannidis has urged the club to sign former AFC Bournemouth defender Ryan Fredericks this summer.

Fredericks, who has Premier League and Europa League experience, is currently a free agent after his contract with Bournemouth expired.Ioannidis believes that Fredericks would be a great addition to Portsmouth’s squad, despite his high wages being a potential obstacle. He feels that Fredericks’ leadership qualities and experience would be invaluable to the team as they look to compete in the Championship.

Fredericks, 31, has struggled for game time at Bournemouth, featuring in just 12 Premier League matches during his two-year spell at the club. “His wages are quite high compared to what we’re currently paying, but with us still looking for more cover in the right-back position, and Fredericks being a player with such experience and leadership qualities, he feels like someone who would be a really good signing on a free.”Ioannidis admits that signing Fredericks may be a long shot, but he believes that it’s worth a try. “It’s more of a wildcard option, I don’t necessarily expect us to be going after a player like Fredericks, but he’s still at a good age, he could provide a team with a lot, and someone who our other defenders, especially Jordan Williams, could benefit from.

“If Portsmouth could convince Fredericks to join the club, it would be a significant coup. His experience and leadership qualities would be a valuable asset to the team, and his ability to compete at a high level would be a boost to the squad.However, it remains to be seen whether Portsmouth can persuade Fredericks to take a pay cut and join the club. If they can, it could be a shrewd piece of business, but if not, they may need to look elsewhere for a right-back.
