Sport nationEverton left-back Vitalii Mykolenko has not traveled to the Republic of Ireland for the team’s pre-season camp due to an ankle injury. The 25-year-old suffered ankle ligament damage in Everton’s 2-0 win over Liverpool towards the end of last season and has been undergoing rehabilitation at Finch Farm.
Mykolenko’s injury limited his game time for Ukraine in Euro 2024, and he only played in the final Group E fixture against Belgium. After Ukraine’s elimination, Mykolenko was given time off but has now reported back to duty for pre-season training. However, he has hit a minor setback, which may prevent him from featuring in the opening friendly against Sligo Rovers on Friday.
Everton manager Sean Dyche has confirmed that Mykolenko will join the team later this week or early next week. Dyche also mentioned that new signings Tim Iroegbunam and Iliman Ndiaye are with the team and will get a blend of what Everton does.
Dyche emphasized the importance of group strength and the mental side of the game, which was a crucial factor in Everton’s performance last season. However, Jordan Pickford will not be back for several weeks as he is taking a well-deserved rest after helping England reach the final of Euro 2024.
