Sport Nation 2Before now, West Ham United has agreed to a deal with French club Nice to sign defender Jean-Clair Todibo, but the Premier League side fears the player prefers a move to Juventus. The deal includes an initial €5 million loan fee, an obligation to buy for €32 million, and potential add-ons of €3 million. Nice will retain a sell-on clause if Todibo moves to West Ham permanently.
Todibo, 24, has emerged as a prime transfer target for West Ham due to the uncertain futures of Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma. The club had a €30 million bid rejected earlier in July but remained hopeful of concluding a deal. However, Juventus’ ability to offer Champions League football next season may sway Todibo’s decision.
Manchester United evaluated a deal for Todibo but ruled it out due to UEFA guidance on multi-club ownership. Nice is owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s company INEOS, which has a minority stake in United.
Todibo joined Nice from Barcelona in 2021 and has played 119 matches, scoring one goal. West Ham has already signed Max Kilman, Luis Guilherme, and Wes Foderingham this summer, while midfielder Flynn Downes joined Southampton.
However, the update as at today states that Jean-Clair Todibo has again, and undoubtedly, said no to West Ham.
