Sport Nation 2West Ham United has made contact to sign Juventus striker Arkadiusz Milik, who was previously compared to Robert Lewandowski by Polish legend Zbigniew Boniek. Milik, 30, has fallen out of favor at Juventus and is available for €7m (£5.9m). However, his age and recent goal-scoring record raise concerns about whether he is the right signing for West Ham.
Milik’s career has been marked by ups and downs, including an unsuccessful trial at Tottenham in 2011. Despite his talent, he has struggled for goals in recent seasons, scoring just nine in 41 appearances in the 2022/23 campaign.
West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is desperate to sign a new striker, with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings aging and struggling for form. However, signing Milik may not be the solution, as he is similar in age and profile to the existing strikers.
A younger option, such as 20-year-old Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, may be a better fit. Alternatively, a short-term deal for Milik could be considered if no other options are available.
In other transfer news, West Ham is ready to submit a £27m bid for Juventus attacker Matias Soule, who has been labelled ‘Messi-esque’. However, Soule only wants to join Roma or a Premier League team of higher stature than West Ham, making a deal unlikely.
West Ham may now focus on signing Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville, who had an impressive season in the Championship and has been in talks to join the club.
