Austute ManWest Ham United is close to agreeing on a £22 million deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler, according to L’Equipe. The Spanish international has accepted the move and is set to work under Julen Lopetegui, who has already made eight signings this summer.
Soler, a Valencia youth academy graduate, has struggled to consistently start for PSG under Luis Enrique, making just 12 league starts last term. With the introduction of 19-year-old Joao Neves, Soler’s minutes may be reduced further, making a transfer away from PSG an opportunity to start fresh.
Lopetegui’s current midfield options include Lucas Paqueta, Tomas Soucek, James Ward-Prowse, Guido Rodriguez, and Edson Alvarez. Soler’s European experience could raise the level of quality in the middle of the park.
West Ham is also interested in signing Tammy Abraham, who would rival Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug for minutes. However, a deal is far from close, with Everton and Saudi Arabian clubs also interested in the Roma striker.
The Hammers have had a busy transfer window, with Lopetegui seeking to strengthen his squad in key areas. Soler’s arrival would be another shrewd move, demonstrating the club’s ambition to compete at the highest level.
