“Imagine him and Matt O’Riley leaving” Italian club ready to snap up Celtic star despite another club holding advanced talks to sign him – Sky Sports

Serie A club Lecce has made a loan offer with an option to buy for Celtic centre-back Gustaf Lagerbielke, according to Sky Sports News journalist Anthony Joseph. This move comes as a surprise, as Eredivisie club Heerenveen were reportedly in advanced talks to sign the Sweden international on loan just days ago.

Lecce’s interest in Lagerbielke is not new, as they were linked with the Celtic player earlier in the summer and during the January transfer window. The Italian club’s offer includes an option to buy, which could give them an upper hand in the deal.

Lagerbielke joined Celtic last summer from Elfsborg in a £3 million deal but has struggled to hold down a regular place under manager Brendan Rodgers, making just ten appearances across all competitions. With Celtic well-stocked at the back, Rodgers is willing to let the 24-year-old go, and it may be up to Lagerbielke to decide which club he wants to join.

The Swedish international will likely prefer to move to a club where he is guaranteed a place in the starting XI, as regular playing time will give him a chance to return to the national team. He made an appearance for Sweden earlier this year, and consistent playing time will be crucial for his international career.

Lagerbielke will not be the only player leaving Celtic in the final days of the summer transfer window. Japan international striker Kyogo Furuhashi is likely to join Manchester City, and Denmark international midfielder Matt O’Riley is expected to return to England and link up with Brighton & Hove Albion. Additionally, Sheffield United are holding talks to sign Celtic winger Mikey Johnston, who spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

Celtic’s willingness to sell Lagerbielke and other players suggests a significant overhaul of the squad. With the Scottish Premiership champions well-stocked in defense, Rodgers may be looking to refresh his squad and bring in new talent.
