Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has praised midfielder Gus Hamer’s attitude amidst transfer speculation, saying that the player has handled the situation “perfectly”. Hamer was the subject of a £13m bid from Leeds United, which was rejected by Sheffield United.

Wilder believes that the bid was intended to unsettle Hamer, but the player has shown his commitment to the team by continuing to perform well on the pitch. Hamer came off the bench in Sheffield United’s League Cup defeat at Barnsley and created several chances, including a shot that forced the goalkeeper into a smart save.

Wilder was impressed with Hamer’s performance, saying: “He showed where his head is tonight. When people talk about head-turned and speculation, he’s handled it fantastically well.” The manager also hinted that Hamer is crucial to Sheffield United’s plans, saying: “We need him because he’s a huge player for us.”

The transfer window closes on Friday, and Wilder will be keen to keep Hamer at the club. He praised Hamer’s attitude, saying: “The way he’s handled it is perfect. I talked about Blaster and the speculation, good players handle speculation and just get on with being good footballers.”

Wilder also took a swipe at Leeds United, saying: “We know the number and the numbers that the club who made the offer [Leeds] have brought in this summer [around £140m] and what they’ve got. Top dollar for their players. I’ll leave it there with everybody…”

Hamer’s performance at Barnsley was a testament to his professionalism and dedication to Sheffield United. Despite the transfer speculation, he remains committed to the team and is determined to help them succeed.

Sheffield United fans will be relieved to hear that Hamer is staying focused on his football, and Wilder will be keen to keep him at the club beyond the transfer deadline. With Hamer in the team, Sheffield United have a better chance of success, and Wilder will be eager to keep him on board.
