Brendan Rodgers’ Frustration: Celtic’s Transfer Policy Under Scrutiny

“Celtic should’ve backed him better,” Wyness said in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast. “Players may want to go further than Scottish football, and their agents may be putting them in the shop window – but Brendan would be very unhappy to lose any more right now.”

Wyness’ comments come as Reo Hatate, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Kyogo Furuhashi are all linked with moves away from Parkhead. These players have been instrumental in Celtic’s dominance over Rangers in recent seasons, and their departures would be a significant blow to Rodgers’ plans.

Rodgers is keen to strengthen his squad, not weaken it, in the final days of the transfer window. However, Wyness suspects that the Celtic board may be more interested in taking the money from player sales than investing in the team’s future.

“He will actually be pushing to strengthen the squad in the last couple of days, not weaken it,” Wyness said. “But the board may be happy to take the money, that seems to be the Celtic way.”

This approach would be a mistake, according to Wyness. He believes that Rodgers needs to be backed by the board if Celtic is to achieve its ambitions.

“If they lose any more, I think Brendan will have a lot to say about it in the media,” Wyness warned. “That would be the big issue.”
