According to reports, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is reluctant to let Billing go, especially since the UK transfer window has closed and the club would not be able to bring in a replacement. However, with the Turkish transfer window still open until September 13, both Galatasaray and Trabzonspor are eyeing a move for the midfielder.
Billing has been a key player for Bournemouth, featuring in 29 league games last season and scoring 31 goals and registering 20 assists in 191 appearances across all competitions. He is primarily a No.10 but can play in a slightly deeper midfield role.
Leeds United had tried to sign Billing on loan towards the end of the transfer window but could not reach an agreement with Bournemouth in time. However, the club remains interested in the midfielder, who is seen as a useful squad player.
In other news, Leeds United boss Daniel Farke reportedly “disagreed” over the late summer arrival of midfielder Ao Tanaka. According to reports in Germany, Tanaka was “never the first choice” for Leeds, and only their failure to secure other targets led them to pursue a late deal for the Japanese international.
Tanaka made his Championship debut for Leeds last weekend, coming off the bench in a 2-0 victory against Hull City. He impressed in the 2. Bundesliga last season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists, leading Fortuna Dusseldorf to third in the table.
Leeds United’s interest in Philip Billing highlights the club’s desire to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season. With the Turkish transfer window still open, it remains to be seen whether the club will make a move for the Bournemouth midfielder.
