Daniel Farke Disagrees with Marcelo Bielsa’s Famous Quote
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has expressed his disagreement with Marcelo Bielsa’s iconic quote about not having a plan B.
Bielsa, who led Leeds to promotion and a ninth-place finish in the Premier League, was known for his unwavering commitment to his tactics. In a famous quote, he said:
“I try to learn from those who propose an alternative plan. What I cannot do is change because my job is to try and convince the players, transmit what produces good results.”
However, Farke, who took over as Leeds manager after Bielsa’s departure, has a different approach.
“I really like Marcelo, I like his attitude. He had many great quotes. I wouldn’t necessarily agree with not having a plan B. I think it’s important to be flexible,” Farke said during Thursday’s press conference.
Farke’s comments came after Leeds’ 1-0 defeat to Burnley, where they struggled to break down Scott Parker’s side despite changing formations.
“This is why we changed our base formation, due to the load during the international break. We should have created more when we were so dominant, but Burnley are a well-structured side,” Farke added.
Farke’s flexibility was evident in the match, as he switched to a back three in an attempt to break down Burnley’s defense.
Injury Concerns
Meanwhile, Leeds is facing injury concerns ahead of their match against Cardiff City. Manor Solomon is a major doubt due to a back problem, while Joe Rothwell, Max Wober, Patrick Bamford, Joe Rodon, and Junior Firpo are also uncertain.
Farke remains optimistic about the players’ availability, but the injuries could impact Leeds’ starting lineup.
Bielsa’s Legacy
Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure at Leeds United was marked by his unwavering commitment to his tactics and his ability to improve players.
Bielsa’s quote about not having a plan B has become iconic, but Farke’s disagreement highlights the different approaches managers take.
While Bielsa’s tactics were successful during his time at Leeds, Farke’s flexibility may be necessary in the ever-changing landscape of the Championship.
Only time will tell if Farke’s approach will yield similar success.
