Kasper Schmeichel Reveals Celtic’s Tactical Shift Against Atalanta

Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has shared the key adjustments made by manager Brendan Rodgers that helped secure a crucial 0-0 draw against Atalanta in the Champions League.

Schmeichel praised Celtic’s “incredible defensive performance” and highlighted the team’s ability to learn from their previous defeat against Dortmund.

“We knew we had to learn from the Dortmund game and defend for our lives,” Schmeichel told TNT Sports. “We took a more practical approach, taking fewer chances in build-up due to Atalanta’s man-to-man system.”

Rodgers’ tactical tweaks paid off, as Celtic earned a valuable point against the high-scoring Italian side.

“We did carve out some chances, and to come here and get a point is a good point,” Schmeichel added.

The Celtic goalkeeper acknowledged the difficulty of playing away in Europe, particularly against an aggressive opponent like Atalanta.

Rodgers’ pragmatic approach, without abandoning Celtic’s attacking principles, proved effective. The Celtic manager’s post-match comments suggested he felt vindicated, having silenced critics calling for a more defensive setup.

The draw propelled Celtic to 20th place in the Champions League standings, ahead of powerhouses Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and Atletico Madrid.

Schmeichel’s comments highlight Celtic’s resilience and adaptability, demonstrating their ability to compete against top European teams.
