“We’re already getting CARRIED AWAY…” – Celtic goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, advises Celtic fans to FORGET the VICTORY against Leipzig, and reveals what Celtic needs to be SCARED of if they want to win the League this season.

Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel quickly redirected his focus from the team’s Champions League success against RB Leipzig to their upcoming Scottish Premiership clash with Kilmarnock. The Denmark international, who recently celebrated his 38th birthday, enjoyed a memorable victory as Celtic defeated Leipzig 3-1, moving them closer to potential progression in the Champions League. However, Schmeichel insists that the team must stay grounded and not get carried away by recent successes.

“I think the biggest mistake we can make is to get ahead of ourselves,” Schmeichel said, urging caution amidst growing optimism among fans. “This is a ruthless competition, and if we want to keep progressing, we need to maintain the same level of focus and performance that we showed against Leipzig.”

Schmeichel’s experience has taught him the importance of maintaining balance and composure. While acknowledging that their recent performances have strengthened Celtic’s position, he emphasized that staying “humble and grounded” is crucial. Reflecting on past games, he noted that consistency in both defensive and overall play will be key for Celtic if they are to advance in Europe.

Celtic returns to league action on Sunday as they travel to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock. Schmeichel emphasized the need for continuous focus, regardless of the opponent or competition. “In modern football, you have to be at your best in every game. There are no easy matches, and we’re certainly not expecting one on Sunday,” he said, highlighting the challenge of competing at a club like Celtic.

Schmeichel expressed the demands of playing in multiple competitions, from the Champions League to domestic leagues. “That’s the beauty and the challenge of playing here—you have to adapt,” he stated. “One day you’re playing in a semi-final, the next in the Champions League, and then back to league matches. You need to cope with the physical and mental demands each competition brings.”

Reflecting on his career, Schmeichel noted the importance of living in the present, a skill that has become essential in today’s fast-paced football world. “With so many games, if you’re not in the moment, you lose focus,” he shared. “Staying present is vital. It’s not about how you start; it’s about how you finish.”

Schmeichel added that while Celtic has had a strong start, there’s still a long road ahead. He shared that each game requires full attention and effort, as that’s what ultimately leads to achieving their goals. “We’re off to a good start, but that’s just the beginning,” he said. “Every step along the way needs our full attention.”

When asked how he maintains this level of focus, Schmeichel replied simply, “Just do it.” For him, experience has been his greatest teacher, having played through various types of leagues and seasons with both triumphs and setbacks. “You learn to stay level-headed, not getting too high or too low, just moving on to the next match,” he explained.

As Celtic moves through a period of intense competition, with matches every few days until around March, Schmeichel stressed the need to reset quickly after each game. “Feel whatever you need to feel until midnight, then move on,” he advised, underscoring his disciplined approach to maintaining focus.

The goalkeeper’s mindset highlights the intensity and resilience required at the top level. For Schmeichel, each game—whether in Europe or the domestic league—is part of a larger journey, with the ultimate goal of success at season’s end. This approach reflects Celtic’s commitment to consistent performance across all competitions and Schmeichel’s experience in guiding his teammates through a demanding schedule.
