Former Rangers Player Calum Gallagher Opens Up About His Unlikely Journey to Ibrox

In a fascinating revelation, former Rangers player Calum Gallagher has shared his extraordinary story of joining the Glasgow giants despite growing up as a Celtic fan.

Gallagher, now 30 and playing for Arbroath, spent five years at Rangers, progressing through the youth ranks and playing a small part in the club’s journey from the Third Division to their 55th top-flight title.

The forward has spoken candidly about his experiences, including the intense rivalry between Rangers and Celtic. “Growing up a Celtic fan, it was interesting seeing the other side,” Gallagher reflected. “Probably most notably for me, it was amazing how quickly you get caught up in the rivalry.”

Gallagher recalled his time playing in Old Firm derbies, admitting that he became swept up in the ferocity of the fixture. “I remember playing in Old Firm games and absolutely hating the youth teams of Celtic,” he said. “You just get caught up in them easily.”

Despite his Celtic upbringing, Gallagher has spoken highly of his time at Rangers, expressing gratitude for the football education he received at Ibrox. “It’s a massive club, and it’s the best education you can get in the country,” he acknowledged.

Gallagher’s journey to Rangers was not without its twists and turns. He revealed that he had initially been told he would not be offered a deal by Rangers’ youth coach Jim Sinclair. However, after impressing in a Glasgow Cup final, Gallagher was offered a contract, which he gladly accepted.

“It was an easy decision to pick Rangers and to stay,” Gallagher explained. “It was always a case of uncles, my brother, and my dad getting a teasing every now and again, but it was all good-natured and fun.”

Gallagher’s time at Rangers may have been relatively short-lived, but the experience has left a lasting impression on him. “I’ve still got a real soft spot for Rangers,” he confessed. “They gave me my football education, so I really look forward to Old Firm games because I can just enjoy the game.”
