The 29-year-old Swede was a key player for Celtic during their back-to-back title-winning seasons under Ange Postecoglu. However, he left the club during Brendan Rodgers’ first transfer window and joined Celta Vigo.
Initially, Starfelt struggled to find his footing in Spain, falling out of favor towards the end of last season. There were even rumors of a potential return to Celtic during the summer transfer window. Nevertheless, he has bounced back strongly this season, playing in all but one game for Celta Vigo in La Liga.
Starfelt’s impressive performance was on full display as Celta Vigo came from two goals down to secure a draw against league leaders Barcelona. His standout display did not go unnoticed, as Celta Vigo fans took to social media to praise his improved form. Many fans credited him with being the most improved player in La Liga, highlighting his increased confidence and ability on the ball.
The Swede fell out of favour in Spain towards the end of last season, so much so that he was linked with a shock return to Celtic in this summer’s transfer window.
But he’s played all but one game in the Spanish top flight this term, and last night played a starring role as Celta came from two goals down to snatch a draw against runaway leaders Barcelona.
And Celta fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to laud the 29-year-old’s upturn in form.
One fan said: “There is an award in the NBA called ‘Most Improved Player.’
“If there were one [in La Liga], it would go to Carl Starfelt.
“He’s a sure thing, his confidence is sky-high, and he’s improved tremendously with the ball.
Another fan posted: “Starfelt’s game today is an absolute 10/10.
“The jump he made from good centre-back to elite centre-back from one day to the next is incredible.”
