West Ham United are reportedly considering a move for Botafogo striker Igor Jesus in the January transfer window. The 23-year-old Brazilian has been in impressive form this season, scoring eight goals in all competitions and earning four caps for his country.
According to a report in the Sunday Mirror, West Ham are keen to sign Jesus, who is widely regarded as one of Brazil’s most promising young strikers. The Hammers are believed to be willing to pay around £30m to secure his services.
Jesus’s impressive form has attracted attention from several European clubs, including Crystal Palace, whose co-owner John Textor is also a shareholder at Botafogo. Textor recently revealed that West Ham were one of the clubs that had held talks with Jesus, although the player is currently focused on the Brazilian championship.
West Ham’s pursuit of Jesus is the latest attempt by the club to address their long-standing striker problem. The Hammers have struggled to find a reliable goal-scorer in recent years, with Michail Antonio often being relied upon to lead the line.
The club’s record in signing strikers has been patchy, with recent signings such as Gianluca Scamacca and Danny Ings failing to make a significant impact. Niclas Fullkrug, who joined the club in the summer, has also struggled to establish himself due to injury.
With West Ham currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table, the pressure is on manager Julen Lopetegui to turn things around. The signing of a prolific striker like Igor Jesus could be a major boost to the team’s chances of climbing the table.
