Rangers Suffer Injury Blow as Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s Loan Deal is Cut Short

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed that Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s loan deal has been cut short due to a devastating injury that will keep the player out for up to six months.

The 22-year-old defender had impressed since joining Rangers on a loan-to-buy deal from Feyenoord in the summer. However, after suffering a painful injury whilst playing for the Netherlands U21s, Kasanwirjo might have already played his last game for Rangers.

Clement revealed the extent of Kasanwirjo’s injury in an interview with the Rangers Review. “The operation for Neraysho was good, but he will be at least out for four to six months,” Clement said. “So we cannot count on him.”

Kasanwirjo’s injury is a bitter blow to the defender, who had settled well into life at Rangers. Clement praised Kasanwirjo’s attitude and work ethic, saying: “He loves the club, he loves the dressing room, he even loves the staff – that doesn’t happen much!”

Despite the setback, Clement has not ruled out the possibility of Kasanwirjo returning to Rangers at the end of the season. “We have an agreement with Feyenoord that he will do his rehab also there,” Clement said. “But I stay in touch with Nana, and we will see at the end of the season how things go.”

Rangers will now have to look for alternative options in the January transfer window. Clement had previously hinted that the club might need to sign a replacement for Kasanwirjo. “It’s really hard because he was adapting really well to the club, to the mentality here,” Clement said. “He showed good things in the games, in the trainings, and he was showing the right quality for Rangers, so it’s a big blow for all of us.”

Kasanwirjo’s injury is not the only concern for Rangers, as Dujon Sterling is also set to see a specialist over a trapped nerve in the coming days. Sterling missed the 1-0 Scottish Premiership win over St Johnstone, but Clement is hopeful that he will be back in the squad for the visit of Kilmarnock on Wednesday evening.

The news is a setback for Rangers, who had been impressed with Kasanwirjo’s performances. However, the club will now have to focus on finding alternative options in the January transfer window.
