Former Celtic Striker Pawel Brozek Reveals “Broken Promise” by Neil Lennon Led to His Departure

Pawel Brozek, the Polish striker who was at the center of an Old Firm transfer tug-of-war in 2012, has revealed that a “broken promise” by Neil Lennon led to his disappointing spell at Celtic. Brozek, who had been courted by both Celtic and Rangers, ultimately opted to join the Hoops on loan in January 2012.

However, the 28-year-old’s hopes of establishing himself at Celtic and earning a spot in Poland’s Euro 2012 squad were dashed as he struggled to break into the team. Brozek found himself relegated to the bench, behind the prolific duo of Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes.

The Polish international’s frustration came to a head when he was substituted off in his only start for the club, away to Motherwell, in favor of teenage debutant Tony Watt. Brozek’s Celtic career was effectively over after just three appearances, and he departed the club weeks before the end of the season.

In a candid assessment of his time at Celtic, Brozek laid the blame for his disappointing spell squarely at the feet of Lennon. “Things did not work out for me as planned,” Brozek reflected. “I changed club as I wanted to play as much as possible. I do not want to complain about any of the other players or say that the coach did not like me and that is why he did not choose to put me on the pitch.
