WHAT A SWAP DEAL – ” – Leeds United, Red Bull swap deal on the cards amid ongoing exit talks

Leeds United centre-back Max Wöber could be returning to Red Bull Salzburg in the January window, but Leeds’ newfound connection with the energy drinks giant could mean they get someone in return.

According to reports from Austrian outlet Salzburger Nachrichten, Red Bull Salzburg are pushing to sign Wöber in the new year, nearly two years on from selling him to Jesse Marsch’s Leeds in 2023. The report shares that the talks between the Austrian side and Leeds are “taking shape” and there is a “concrete” chance that he’s going to be returning to his former club.

Wöber’s asking price set by Leeds is not expected to be an issue for the side currently sat in mid-table in the Austrian Bundesliga, owned by Red Bull – who have notably acquired a minority stake at Elland Road earlier this year.

Journalist Graeme Bailey has shared with LeedsUnited.news that the Whites could discuss a possible swap deal to bring a player from Salzburg to West Yorkshire, should Wöber head that way. Bailey stated that Leeds are in regular contact with Red Bull Salzburg and that there have been talks about Wöber and a potential loan to Salzburg.

Bailey also mentioned that there are players at both Leipzig and Salzburg who are available and could help cover Wöber’s departure, whilst also bolstering Leeds’ options. He stated that conversations are continuing, and even if Wöber does not leave, Leeds could still see players arriving at Elland Road from elsewhere in the Red Bull network.

The Red Bull network of scouts is something that Leeds have to be finding a way to tap into in the coming months, and this deal might be a way in. If Wöber does head to Salzburg, a player coming in the other direction to bolster Leeds’ side in other positions might be worth considering.

Red Bull Salzburg have immense talent consistently coming through, and the likes of Maurits Kjaergaard, Dorgeles Nene, and Petar Ratkov could all be viable signings at Leeds.
