Tim Henman Hails Roger Federer as Most Complete Player, But Names Novak Djokovic as Greatest of All Time
Former British tennis star Tim Henman has shared his thoughts on the Big Three of men’s tennis, praising Roger Federer as the most complete player he ever faced, but ultimately naming Novak Djokovic as the greatest male player of all time.
Henman, who had a storied career that included six Grand Slam semifinal appearances, faced Federer on 13 occasions, with the Swiss maestro eventually gaining the upper hand in their head-to-head, winning seven of their last eight meetings.
“I played Roger the most, and I felt that he had the most complete game,” Henman said in an interview with talkSPORT. “He could play on any surface, had very few weaknesses, and there wasn’t a specific area that you could necessarily attack. For me, Roger was the most complete player that I ever played against.”
Despite his admiration for Federer, Henman was unequivocal in his assessment of who stands as the greatest male player of all time. “For me, it’s fairly straightforward that Djokovic is the greatest male player of all time,” he stated. “How do you judge that? I think it does become a numbers game – it’s who has won the most Grand Slams, who has had the most weeks at number one, who has won the most Masters 1000 – and it’s Djokovic.”
Henman’s comments come as no surprise, given Djokovic’s impressive résumé, which includes a record 24 Grand Slam titles, 373 weeks at number one in the ATP rankings, and a record 38 Masters 1000 crowns.
While Federer and Rafael Nadal have also achieved incredible success in their careers, Henman believes that Djokovic’s sheer consistency and dominance across all surfaces set him apart as the greatest of all time.
“It’s not just about the numbers, though,” Henman added. “It’s about the way Djokovic has adapted his game over the years, the way he’s been able to stay at the top of the game for so long, and the way he’s been able to dominate on all surfaces. For me, that’s what sets him apart as the greatest male player of all time.”
