Formula 1 Pre-Season Testing: Day 1 Recap from Bahrain

The highly anticipated 2025 Formula 1 pre-season testing got underway in Bahrain, with all 10 teams taking to the track for the first of three days of testing. The day’s proceedings were marked by a mix of excitement, intrigue, and a few unexpected moments.

As the cars took to the track, it was clear that the teams were eager to get back to business after the winter break. The morning session saw a flurry of activity, with drivers taking turns to set the pace.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was one of the first drivers to take to the track, but he faced a frustrating morning, completing only seven laps and failing to set a competitive time. In contrast, teammate Lando Norris was able to complete a significant number of laps, finishing the morning session in fifth place.

Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, who made his debut with the Italian team, had a more productive morning, completing 21 laps and finishing in eighth place. The seven-time world champion was seen practicing his starts and working on the car’s setup.

The morning session was topped by Alpine’s Jack Doohan, who set a time of 1:33.359 on the hard compound tires. The Australian driver was closely followed by Aston Martin’s Liam Lawson, who finished in second place.

As the day progressed, the teams continued to work on their cars, making adjustments and tweaks to optimize their performance. The afternoon session saw a number of drivers take turns to set the pace, with Hamilton eventually rising to the top of the timesheets with a lap of 1:32.621.

The day’s proceedings were not without incident, however. A brief yellow flag was flown in the morning session, and a number of drivers were seen struggling with the handling of their cars.

Despite the challenges, the teams were generally pleased with the progress they made on the first day of testing. With two more days of testing to come, the teams will be looking to continue refining their cars and preparing for the start of the 2025 season.

As the paddock packed up for the day, the mood was one of optimism and anticipation. With the new season just around the corner, the teams are eager to get back to racing and compete for the top honors.

The second day of testing gets underway on Wednesday, with the teams set to continue their preparations for the 2025 season.
