MERCEDES UNVEILS RADICAL NEW UPDATE FOR W16 CAR AHEAD OF NEW SEASON

Mercedes has announced a significant update to its W16 car, marking a major milestone in the team’s preparations for the upcoming season. The German outfit has introduced an innovative, durable carbon fibre composite material that will be used in the construction of the cars driven by George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

According to Mercedes, the new material has been designed to meet the same technical and demanding requirements as traditional carbon fibre composites, while also reducing the car’s carbon footprint. The team claims that the introduction of this new material will not compromise the car’s performance on the track.

The use of carbon fibre materials is widespread in Formula 1, with approximately 75% of a car’s components made from this lightweight yet incredibly strong material. Mercedes believes that innovations in carbon fibre technology have the potential to make a significant impact on the sport’s environmental sustainability.

Team principal Toto Wolff expressed his pride in the team’s innovative approach, stating: “When you combine performance and innovation, you create progress. I am proud to lead a team of problem solvers who are committed to driving sustainable change.”

The development of the sustainable carbon fibre composite was made possible through a collaborative effort between Mercedes, INEOS Nitriles, Toray, Syensqo, and Sigmatex. Wolff praised the team’s partners, saying: “I would like to thank our partners for supporting our drive for material innovation, and to the FIA for enabling us to test these materials. Collectively, we are moving the dial on sustainable products and demonstrating that Formula 1 continues to be the fastest laboratory in the world.”

This significant update to the W16 car demonstrates Mercedes’ commitment to innovation and sustainability, and sets the stage for an exciting new season in Formula 1.
