KYOGO FURUHASHI FACES BLEAK FUTURE AT RENNES AFTER LOSING COACH’S TRUST
Kyogo Furuhashi’s move to Rennes has not yielded the desired results, with the Japanese striker struggling to make an impact at the Ligue 1 club. A persistent shoulder injury, which has lingered since his time at Celtic, has been cited as a major factor in his lack of playing time.
According to Atsushi Nakayama, who covers French football for DAZN Japan, Furuhashi’s problems stem from a knock picked up against Lille. Nakayama revealed that the striker’s trust with new coach Habib Beye was broken after he suffered a dislocation of his left shoulder in the final minutes of the match.
“Furuhashi started in the first match against Strasbourg, but failed to make an impact,” Nakayama said. “He made an even worse impression in their next match against Lille. He came on in the second half and he suffered a dislocation of his left shoulder in the final minutes. Furuhashi alone was not the cause of the loss, but he did not impress the new coach. His trust was broken.”
Furuhashi’s lack of playing time has sparked speculation that he may be moved on in the summer. Nakayama believes that the Japanese striker will struggle for minutes under Beye’s football philosophy, which prioritizes young players.
“Rennes is a team that traditionally gives young players a chance, and when they produce results they sell them to stronger teams for a large transfer fee,” Nakayama explained. “The missions given to new manager Beye are to stay in the first division and to increase the market value of young players. It will be tough for the 30-year-old Furuhashi to get many playing opportunities from now until the end of this season.”
With his future at Rennes hanging in the balance, Furuhashi will be hoping to regain his fitness and win over Beye’s trust in the coming weeks. However, the signs are ominous for the Japanese striker, who may be forced to consider his options elsewhere.
