According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, talks between the clubs are at an advanced stage, with Hammers director of football Tim Steidten traveling to Brazil to finalize the deal.
Guilherme, just 18 years old, has already made a significant impact at Palmeiras, making his professional debut last year and impressing scouts with his pace, skill, and potential. West Ham are willing to pay around £25m for the young winger, who has also attracted interest from Liverpool and Brentford.
The signing of Guilherme would be a major coup for West Ham, who have been rebuilding their squad under new manager Julen Lopetegui. The Spanish coach has been tasked with improving the team’s attacking play, and Guilherme’s addition would provide a significant boost to the Hammers’ frontline.
According to Sheth, West Ham’s technical director Tim Steidten has played a key role in the negotiations, using his extensive contacts in South America to secure the deal. Steidten’s influence is expected to grow at West Ham, with the club’s new manager Lopetegui likely to rely on his expertise in recruitment.
The signing of Guilherme would be a significant statement of intent from West Ham, who are looking to challenge for European qualification next season. The young Brazilian has already shown his potential in the Copa Libertadores, scoring one goal and providing several assists in five appearances.
Former footballer Frank McAvennie has even gone as far as to call Guilherme “the messiah”, such is his potential impact on the West Ham team. Chairman David Sullivan is also reportedly excited about the signing, seeing Guilherme as a key player in the club’s future plans.
